…about the musicOoooh. Aahhh.
Back from NYC this weekend. Leave again for NYC on Wednesday. Despite ping-ponging myself across an invisible net due to an unusual amount of cross country traveling recently, the minute I get back here to San Juan Island I make damn sure to let the ball rest and put my gears into neutral. That doesn’t mean not working; I’ve got several commissions nagging for my attention and a ton of followup correspondence that guarantees I’ll never see the picture waiting on the bottom of a clean, empty email inbox. What neutral means to me is what you see above: the ability to just stop and gaze in awe at something so exquisitely peaceful that it puts everything else in immediate perspective. Like lots of my colleagues, despite the proclaimed holiday, I’m working in my studio. But I’m also working at being a whole person who won’t ignore what’s just outside that studio door. Aaaahhhh…..

Welcome back, and bon voyage. You caught and captured those moments of golden late afternoon’s light there on your island in the stream. Have you seen any of orca pods yet? Isn’t this the start of the three pods revisiting the area? They have updated my office computer yet again, and this morning I can’t get your mp3 to work. Sadness prevails. Went up on Rainier Saturday, along with most of the population of the south sound. Couldn’t see your house from there, but I tried.

I’ve been seeing some amazing views of Ranier from my various flights. The last one a few days ago showed the giant looming without a single cloud encircling it, as is so often the case. I just love how on the Kenmore landings into Boeing Field, Ranier stands almost dead-on at the visual end of the runway. What a sight! I’ll get to enjoy that again in the early morning tomorrow. Ahhhh…
I haven’t seen any orcas yet this season, but I bet I will next week when I’m back and tooling around the West side….

Hey, Alex!
I’m so happy I found your blog! The many inspirational links between your music and what I actually experienced in just a busy, one-day visit to the San Juan, Orcas and Lopez Islands are obvious. Since my digital transition from film, I’ve become a snap-happy fool and shot nearly 3,000+ pics in the Seattle area in just a week’s time. The pics are “my music” and I’m actually still “composing” them into kind of a visual trek.
I was starved for inspiration – and found it in that very brief time frame. My discovering your blog site upon my return was magic! Your minute, inventive audio hyperboles flatter my memories of the Islands and now permeate my every thought as I again review my visual ensemble. I’m looking at things differently.
You’re quite the photographer, too. Thank you for sharing insight into your creative world. It’s greatly appreciated. Keep it up!!

Thanks for the “Peace” pix. One of my very favorite things is the still, mirror surface of peaceful water with dazzling reflections. I needed that. I hope your island hopping is going well and productive.

Hi Barry, the Permalink is the URL to the post that supposedly will always be there. Island hopping has gone well and is now over for a few weeks, thankfully. I’m happy to be home!
