What's on upcoming CDs?

Alex Shapiro's pieces have been recorded by many wonderful musicians. CDs that are commercially available are listed in the discography above and may be obtained by clicking here

An all-Shapiro CD of some of Alex's chamber music, Notes from the Kelp, has been released, and a second, contrasting disc is an electro-acoustic CD that's a collection of Alex's works for soloists accompanied by intricate electronic soundscapes, titled Alextronica. It will be available in 2009, and you can read about it by clicking here

Alextronica

Alex's upcoming electro-acoustic CD

Alex has been working on a new CD of several electronic mini-concertos, featuring a diverse range of pieces for the combination of multi-layered prerecorded electronic soundscapes and solo instruments, such as Deep, first heard on contrabassoonist Carolyn Beck's 2005 CD, Beck and Call. Alex has been composing electro-acoustic works for Italian violinist Antonio D'Andrea, Great Highland bagpiper Ian Whitelaw, double bassist Tom Peters, bass clarinetist Marty Walker, electric violinist Sabrina Ann Berger, pianist Teresa McCollough, contrabass flutist Peter Sheridan, and sitarist Hasu Patel. Adding to these works, Alex is collaborating with master 32-string veena player Shri. Thakur Chakrapani Singh of Delhi, India, on a set of his beautiful ragas. Their first completed piece is titled Chakra Suite.

Delicate Balance

Featuring Water Crossing

Water Crossing, commissioned in 2002 by Norfolk Chamber Consort clarinetist F. Gerard Errante, is a piece for clarinet and prerecorded electronic soundscape which will appear on Errante's upcoming CD, Delicate Balance. The concept of the album is to provide a more interesting alternative to "doctor's office" music, with pieces that are soothing yet not brain-dead. Root canal will be almost enjoyable. Almost.

Peter Sheridan made up one quarter of the stunning Los Angeles Flute Quartet, which premiered and recorded Bioplasm. Now Sheridan is at work on a new CD dedicated to low flutes and has commissioned a new piece from Alex, Below, for contrabass flute and prerecorded electronics, that intends to take the listener to new depths of wind and water.
